Leaders make risks feel safe?

I will be attending a leadership training this week, so I spent the past couple of days re-reading the training materials. One concept that stood out this time around is the idea that leaders create safety in taking risks. One of the fundamental characteristics of a leader is their ability to challenge and promote change or development. With promoting change, one must experiment with what works and doesn’t work. This experimental behavior is often risky, but leaders are often going to encounter resistance when promoting change. One who aspires to be a leader does not give up when told “No” when presenting a new idea. Adaptations are made until a change is agreed upon. Leaders must feel comfortable with the idea of risk to achieve an overall goal. Leadership is a realationship that takes place between a leader and their constituents, so the idea that leadership creates safety for others in risk makes sense.
