Watching limitations and barriers float away

About a week ago, I found myself commenting on a Facebook group post, which is something I rarely do. The post was someone congratulating a friend on being promoted to the next belt in JiuJitsu. This friend also was being recognized for his ability to go above and beyond, despite grapling with an amputated limb. I saw someone had commented on the post stating that his family member is blind and currently trains. I responded with my story about training with disabilities, only to get a response from this individual. I wrote a word of encouragement to the individual’s family member, “Keep on going because this is one of the things I’ve found that I feel like my disabilities don’t matter. Finding comfort in situations where limitations don’t matter is rare, so it’s important to experience those situations while you can”. As I wrote this, a lightbulb went on as I realized that I never put this feeling into words before. Despite if you have disabilities or are just going through some tough times, it’s always important to find that “Happy place” where your struggles/limitations don’t matter. You may feel like you are walking around with a sticky note on your forehead stating your flaws, but it’s healthy to find some sort of activity/group where you feel like that sticky note falls away. It’s when the note disappears that individuals can truly rise to their full potential. It’s Currently Veteran’s Day, so I would like to sincerely show my appreciation and gratitude for all future, current, previous, and passed service members. These individuals don’t have a sticky note, but a badge of honor for their sacrifices. EyeRoll4 the ability to make limitations disappear and focus on self growth.
