Last week I wrote about a re-occurring annoyance that comes about when I spar/roll with my instructor. The technique is known as the Dragon Tail. Without getting too technical with how this can be an annoyance, I will focus on how I used this technique to my advantage to learn more about it. I spoke about how I tried going in a different direction to figure out the solution. This can lead to a solution. I mean by trying different alternatives until you can beat an obstacle, but what about dissecting the problem from a 1st person point of view? Recently when I sparred with someone other than my instructor, I decided to use the Dragon Tail. I tried using it as a way of winning the fight, but in the process I found that it can be used as a handle or a distraction, occupying my opponent while I move to something else. When I used the technique or was the problem for my opponent I found out what the problem is looking for. When I am dealing with the problem, I now have a greater understanding of what the problem needs to interrupt my peace of mind. I can shut the problem down based on this information. I like to play “Devil’s advocate” a lot to problem-solve in various situations. What if this happens? Then I have a plan A B or C. Knowing the problem’s sharp edges can help you avoid and/or work around issues that can take many tries to over-come. EyeRoll4 the ability to figure out what makes issues tick.
