The molding of words

As I was scrolling through Facebook last night, I realized how powerful words can be. Last week I made a post about how others can build you up and further fuel your desire to succeed. This can be true when talking directly to someone, or it can just be the words and thoughts that they put out. I took a moment to reflect on what my phone was reading to me and just thought “Wow… I am truly thankful that I know so many people that are just getting after it day in and day out”. Their positive messages that they had posted made me want to do more. Sure there is a lot of negativity in the world, but it is what you choose to pay attention to that determines your primary view of either positivity or negativity. The power of words can make you want to get off the couch or crawl back into bed. Often you hear the phrase “Read between the lines”. It is our overall perception of what we hear or read that determines our takeaway and we have the ability to mold what we take in to what we want. For instance, Nike’s slogan is “Just do it”. You can either say it with a shrug and drag your feet into your next challenge, or you can say “Let’s do this!” with a burst of enthusiasm ready to kick off the starting blocks.
